European architects most decisive on insulation and façade materials
In a big share of the architectural bureaus in Europe, architects decide on the type of products to be used when insulation and facade materials have to be chosen. These are some of the results of the Q1 2012 European Architectural Barometer report, a quarterly study among 1,200 European architects. The architects in the Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany and the United Kingdom have a large influence when some products have to be chosen for a building project.
A smaller, but significant share of architects in the rest of the counties, e.g. United Kingdom (54%), Germany (69%) and Spain (61%) also declare to choose the type of the facade materials. The same picture is seen in the UK, Germany and Spain when it comes to decision making about products for insulation. Between 56% and 61% of the professionals admit to have a role in the process. For the UK, the selection of the type of insulation materials is the area where the highest share of architects (56%) declare to be decisive (all other 20 product groups were mentioned by fewer British architects).
In Germany (66%) and Spain (62%), architects also have big influence on the type of wall building materials used. A majority of the French architects decide also on the ceiling systems, while the Italian architects play an important role in inner walls products selection.
These and many other results and trends of the developments of the European construction market can be found in the European Architectural Barometer, an international research conducted among 1,200 architects in Europe. This study is conducted in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and the Netherlands by Arch-Vision four times a year. Besides indicators to forecast European building volumes, a specific topic is highlighted each quarter. In Q1 2012, this topic is the “Decision making unit”. Architects can be used not only as a reliable source for future building volumes information, but their role is very important as they have great influence on how projects are built and which materials are used.
