Online ordering and buying

In recent years, the very conservative electrical installation market and specifically the electrical installers themselves has been slowly changing. Many trends are effecting this market, but the most visible one is the purchase behaviour of the installers. As we have seen in recent reports, the specialised wholesale is still very much dominant. The main challenger seems to be direct supply from the manufacturers. Nevertheless, online ordering and buying has been rapidly adopted.

In all counties covered by this research, the majority of the installers order online. The majority of the online orders and purchases are still done at the traditional installation wholesale. This in itself is obviously quite significant as this means that less installers are visiting the wholesale stores or they visit less frequently. This can have a profound effect on the relationship between the wholesaler and the electrical installers in the long run. The personal relationship has been one of the key cornerstones of the success of the specialised wholesale. With online ordering increasing (and set to continue to increase due to higher workloads and labour shortage) this relationship can become under pressure.
